Foster teamed up with popular balladeer Michael Bolton, 58, funk soul artiste Philip Bailey, 60, of Earth, Wind & Fire fame, British tenor Russell Watson, R&B singer Ashanti, 30, and young pop star Charice, for an extraordinary night of music here last night.
Performing in Malaysia for the first time, Foster tinkled away on the piano and entertained the responsive crowd with his charm and humour as his famous friends belted out hit after hit in the almost full capacity stadium.
Charice, Foster's young discovery and clearly the crowd's favourite, started the show by demonstrating her powerful vocal chords and Russell picked up the momentum by lending an operatic flavour to his pieces.
Bailey had the crowd stamping their feet and dancing away while Ashanti took it a notch further with some of her R&B numbers.
When Bolton entered the stadium by walking into the audience while crooning his romantic numbers, almost everyone whipped out their handphones to take pictures.
The audience sang along to many songs and Foster was surprised that they knew most of the lyrics.
“You've been an amazing audience and I hope I don't have to wait another 61 years before I'm back here. I'll be back next year!” he said to cheers from the audience.
The show ended with a tribute to Michael Jackson with all the artistes singing the Earth Song, from Jackson's HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I album, which Foster co-produced.
